SUBJECT & OBJECTIVES: The paper provides a functionalist analysis of human free will and its impact on lifestyle from the perspective of Imam Ali . The discussion of free will and human influence over one’s actions is a significant issue in the fields of anthropology and theology, and it is interconnected with many topics in Islamic sciences and disciplines. Human beings possess various dimensions and characteristics, among which free will is a key feature. Imam Ali , in opposition to the prevalent deterministic interpretation, emphasized human free will and its impact on one’s actions. The belief in free will manifests in individuals’ lifestyles.METHOD & FINDING: In an analytical-descriptive method, this paper aims to examine the statements of Imam Ali  regarding human free will and its role in human lifestyle and progress. An active lifestyle or a passive lifestyle is considered a result of the belief in or denial of this free will. Progress and advancement in life, as well as divine happiness and reward, are achieved through free will, effort, and endeavor.CONCLUSION: Reward and punishment would be meaningless without free will. Effort and endeavor are fundamental aspects of lifestyle that arise from the belief in human free will. “An attempt to change undesirable conditions” and “Governance of belief” are among the manifestations of free will in individuals’ lifestyles. Man must strive to preserve freedom and not allow beliefs and values to be controlled by emotions.

Lifestyle which encompasses social, cultural, and economic factors deeply impacts upon the people's behavioral patterns and mental attitudes. One of the manifestations of lifestyle is the quality of selecting living places, which in turn influences the architecture of the houses. The purpose of the present study is to examine the extent to which modern lifestyle affected Hamadanian people`s lifestyle as well as the architecture of their houses during the first Pahlavi regime. The study adopted a historical-interpretive analytical method which describes the modern lifestyle of Hamedanian people by taking the transition from tradition to modernity into account and investigates the conceptual components of the architectural modernism of the houses using architectural space analysis. The data for the study were collected through library resources and field study. The sampling method for the field study was purposive. To this end, all the houses built during the first Pahlavi regime which had documents and were possible to visit for a filed study were examined. The results provided evidence for the modernization of people`s lifestyle which led to new concepts of modern lifestyle, such as consumerism, the development of social interaction, the initial formation of civility, social distinction and status, and social importance of women. Moreover, the findings show that changes in lifestyle resulted in the formation of three different architectural patterns. Garden houses, street houses, and evolved traditional houses were considered as reflections of architectural changes. These evolutions show the changes in people`s lifestyle as a result of transition from tradition to modernity and the evolution of architectural space due to the changes in the quality of modernism style of life.

A Qur’anic Conceptual Model of the Relationship between Civilization and Lifestyle: A Structural and Quantitative Analysis of Surah al-Ḥadīd(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

حوزه‌های تخصصی:
تعداد بازدید : ۷۷ تعداد دانلود : ۱۱۱
This article conceptualizes the relationship between the components of modern Islamic civilization and the indicators of Islamic lifestyle on the basis of a structural analysis of the geometric organization of Surah al-Ḥadīd. It addresses the main question of how the Islamic lifestyle in the modern age can be modeled in light of civilizational components such as faith and a monotheistic worldview, rationality, spirituality, economic justice, Islamic governance, and faith-based, mission-driven management. The methodological approach relies on analyzing the four thematic segments of the surah, identifying the relevant components, and assessing their connections with both theoretical and practical lifestyle indicators, while quantifying verse–indicator relations and employing measures such as the number of possible links, a “decision number,” and TF–IDF weighting. The findings indicate that, at the civilizational level, faith and a monotheistic worldview occupy the central position of the model, with rationality, spirituality, and Islamic governance forming the main pillars of Islamic civilization, and economic justice and faith-based, mission-driven management also playing indispensable roles. At the lifestyle level, emulation of  the Prophet and the infallibles in the theoretical domain,  and divine servitude in the practical domain, emerge as the key axes that  orient other indicators and function as the connective link between the monotheistic worldview and the regulation of economic, social, and moral relations within the framework of Islamic governance.

The phenomenon of lifestyle and the architecture of apartments in Iran (Case study: the apartments in District 9, Tehran)

حوزه‌های تخصصی:
تعداد بازدید : ۹۵۰ تعداد دانلود : ۵۸۷
The term lifestyle, which had first been set forth by Alfred Adler in 1929, quickly entered other areas of science. Different scholars have stated various definitions of this term in different scientific fields. The general definition of this term is the social and cultural changes in the everyday life of the people. The major changes in lifestyle in the contemporary times have been made by the increased efficiency of modernity and technology in people's lives. Modernity entered Iran in Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar era; but, its effects in construction are seen in the last 50 years after the adoption of comprehensive urban plans. These changes have changed the content and function of the traditional home and turned them into apartments. The subject of the study is District 9, Tehran, which is located in the central axis of Tehran and has been less invaded by the rapid development. Thus, the gradual changes in the texture and housing in that area can be studied. The purpose of the study was to examine the changes in apartments in the last 50 years in Tehran. The main question was how the spatial changes of the elements of residential apartments in Tehran was. The results showed that among the changes the ratio of spaces - bedroom, living room, and dining room and kitchen - in the 10 and 15-year intervals, the ratio of the average kitchen size in residential apartments has not changed during 50 years. However, the ratio of the average size of the bedroom and living room and dining room spaces during this period has changed greatly, but regression to the initial point was obtained at the end.

This research was conducted to test the hypothesized mediation model of parental reflective functioning on the relationship between strength-based parenting and the behaviors that shape the academic lifestyle of adolescents, including both productive and unproductive ones. In this correlational research, 241 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years and their mothers who were selected using convenience sampling method participated. Adolescents responded to the Strength-Based Parenting Scale (Jach, Sun, Loton, Chin & Waters, 2018) and the Health-Oriented Academic Lifestyle Behavior Questionnaire (Salehzadeh, Shokri and Fatehabadi, 2016) and their mothers responded to the Reflective Parenting Functioning Questionnaire (Luyten, Mayes, Nijssens & Fonagy, 2017). The results indicated that the hypothesized model provided a good fit to the data. All the path coefficients between the observed variables (except for the direct effect of the pre-mentalization scale on the facilitating behaviors of the academic lifestyle) were statistically significant. They accounted for 17% and 22% of the variance in the scores of facilitators and inhibitors of the academic lifestyle, respectively, through strength-based parenting and reflective parenting. In sum, the results, consistent with the positions derived from the theory of ecological systems, showed that in the microsystem of parenting, reflection - as a metacognitive ability - is one of the mechanisms that through it, positive parenting behaviors or positive parenting, explains the possibility of the increase in the use of behavioral models that facilitate academic health and, of course, the decrease in referring to behavioral models that hinder academic health among adolescents

Adwaita Mallabarman’s (1914-1951) Titash Ekti Nadir Naam (1956), translated by Kalpana Bardhan as A River Called Titash (1993), Manik Bandyopadhyay’s (1908-1956) Padma Nadir Majhi (1936), translated by Ratan K. Chattopadhyay as A Boatman of the Padma (2012), and Syed Waliullah’s (1922-1971) Kando Nadi Kando (1968), translated by Osman Jamal as Cry, River, Cry (2015) are novels which portray the identity of the people of Bangladesh who live by the side of the rivers Titash, Padma, and Bakal. The biodiversity of these rivers was once resourceful, but they lost their flow because of the imbalance in the river ecosystems for siltation, drought, and deforestation. The lifestyles and identities of fishermen and people are greatly influenced by the change of river ecosystems. Different writers in Bengali literature have written about the changes of human life in connection with the flow of different big and small rivers. Mallabarman writes about fisherman (Malo) community who catch fish in the Titash; Bandyopadhyay portrays the identity of fishermen who catch fish in the Padma; and Waliullah writes about the farmers and the people who depend on the movement of steamers and live by the side of a tributary called Bakal. These three novelists show beautiful landscapes of Bengal in different seasons and also show how people become victims with the change of biodiversity and ecosystems. This paper explores the change of the ecosystem of the rivers Titash, Padma, and Bakal which change the lifestyle of the people who are dependent on them.
