The autonomy of learners (AL) is a concept that is increasingly becoming popular in English Language Teaching (ELT). This study sought to explore the effects of in-service training on the perceptions and practices of Iranian EFL teachers in terms of learner autonomy. The use of mixed methods enabled the collection of both quantitative and qualitative data from the Learner Autonomy Questionnaire (LAQ) (Borg & Al-Busaidi, 2012) as well as classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. Twenty teachers from an Iranian EFL context enrolled in a 30-hour in-service training focusing on autonomy-supportive practices for EFL. The results of quantitative data analyzed through descriptive statistics and repeated-measures ANOVA showed significant differences on teachers’ perceptions (F = 93.57, p = .00, η2= .83) and practices (F = 237.52, p = .00, η2= .92). Thematic qualitative analysis of interviews showed that teachers’ beliefs with regard to learner autonomy became comprehensive and multi-faceted resulting in greater use of reflective practices, goal-setting, and collaborative problem solving. These findings corroborate existing literature, , while also emphasizing the need to incorporate practical training as a component in teacher development programs (TDP) in a bid to transform knowledge into practice within the classroom. These findings are relevant to curriculum development, teacher training, and future learner autonomy research in EFL contexts.

Dynamic Assessment (DA) is the integration of assessment and training into a single, continuous activity. This combination enhances linguistic skills by providing targeted mediation to students' needs and abilities. This mixed-methods study aimed to investigate the contribution of the two approaches of DA, namely interactionist and interventionist, to vocabulary learning among Iranian EFL learners with diverse cultural backgrounds, with a focus on learners’ attitudes. To meet the objectives, 90 male and female students aged 15-18, at the intermediate level from two language schools in Sarab, Iran, were recruited through convenience sampling. Oxford Quick Placement Test, Vocabulary Knowledge Scale, Vocabulary Test, Cultural Dimension Questionnaire, and recorded instructional sessions were used to gather the required data. The analysis of the quantitative data revealed that students in the interactionist individualism/collectivism group scored significantly higher on the vocabulary posttest than students with other cultural orientations within the same group and students in the interventionist group. Inductive thematic analysis of the qualitative data revealed that the influences of both approaches differed in terms of the degree of negotiated mediations, the development of different learning strategies, and the promotion of different preparation orientations. The findings of the study have some pedagogical implications.

As teaching approaches have advanced, the role of technology and tools in learning has increased. Moreover, pupils’ Satisfaction with the implementation of these tools and technology should be considered too. To this end, the purpose of this inquiry was to examine the Iranian EFL learners’ Retention of Grammar knowledge and their Course Satisfaction based on Flipped classroom strategies. This quasi-experimental research had been carried out in the twelfth grade of Alvand private school in Tabriz city, East Azerbaijan, Iran. Forty high school learners were chosen as participants, and the homogeneity of the classes was checked through Oxford Quick Placement Test. Subsequently, participants were divided to groups in a random manner either the experimental group (n = 20) and the control group (n = 20). The pre-, post- and delayed post-tests of this research were from the Grammar in Use book, to check the initial knowledge, possible gained knowledge, and retention of acquired knowledge, as well as a questionnaire to investigate the level of their Satisfaction with their course. The independent-samples t-test revealed that the experimental group illustrated considerably higher proficiency than the control group in both post-test and ANCOVA scores. Moreover, the result of the questionnaire's descriptive statistics showed a high level of Satisfaction among learners. The study presents practical implications for teachers, researchers, and learners.

This investigation aimed to examine the impact of spaced and massed education on the reading comprehension and vocabulary gain of Iranian EFL students. The researcher selected 150 Iranian participants out of 300 based on their enactment in the Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT). The selected medium participants were unsystematically assigned into two empirical groupings (spacing and massed) and one control group. The participants' reading comprehension and vocabulary knowledge in English were estimated using a pre-test. Three groups were provided with instruction on reading skills by English texts and new words from American English File 3. The massed group received a 90-minute session for each text, whereas the spaced group received three 30-minute sessions; the first session lasted 30 minutes, followed by two more sessions, each lasting 30 minutes, scheduled two days apart. Behind the teaching, a reading and vocabulary post-test post-test were distributed to the three classes. The results of data analysis utilizing independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA showed a considerable distinction between the post-tests of the spaced and massed groups compared to the control group. The findings demonstrate that the spaced grouping, which followed the specific recommended steps in their community, outperformed the massed and control groups (p < .05). This has consequential implications for English instructors, learners, and curriculum developers.

Written corrective feedback (WCF) refers to the feedback given by writing instructors and tutors on novice writers’ performances. Although extensive importance has been attached to the implications of WCF for improving writing skill in L2 writing studies, there is a paucity of research into research on whether student writers benefit differently from elaborated and evaluative feedback. Having this in mind, the aim of this research was to examine the effect of teacher’s text-specific and rubber-stamped comments on Iranian EFL learners’ writing ability at intermediate level. Quick Placement Test was employed to select 40 pre-intermediate EFL learners as the participants of this research. Then, they were randomly assigned into two experimental and control groups. Prior to the treatment, the participants of both groups were given a pretest to disclose their initial writing ability. After administering the rubber-stamped comments to the experimental group and text specific to the control group, a posttest was administered to seek the effect of two types of instruments. An independent samples t-test was used to see if the treatment was effective. Paired samples t-test was also employed to determine the amount of progression between pretest and posttest of the experimental group. The results of the study revealed that rubber-stamped comments improved the learners’ writing ability. Implicationally, instructors can use rubber-stamped comments to help learners improve their writing ability.

The current research examined the use of lexical bundles in the result sections of research papers by Iranian non-native writers in the field of applied linguistics. The WordSmith Software was applied to identify lexical bundles. In addition, the two analytical frameworks Biber et al. (2004) and Ruiying and Allison (2003) were used to categorize the bundles with regard to their structural features and their moves and steps. Moreover, with the aid of concordance, the identified clusters were analyzed and categorized according to their communicative functions. The results of the current research showed that Iranian writers relied heavily on the use of specific formulaic bundles to perform the communicative functions associated with the moves and steps. The findings also revealed that four moves out of six moves were mostly used by Iranian authors. Moreover, the researchers found that the extensive range of formulaic clusters used to demonstrate Move 2, Reporting results, the least bundles occurred in Move 4, Summarizing results, and also no clusters were used in Move 5, Evaluating the study along with Move 6, Deductions from the research by Iranian writers. The findings of this study boost the awareness of formulaic sequences usage for novice writers in particular discourse and communicative function.

این مطالعه به بررسی روابط بین انگیزه ها، نگرش ها و فعالیت های آموزشی خانگی والدین ایرانی به سوی دوزبانگی (فارسی وانگلیسی) می پردازد. به همین منظور،از ۶۸ والدین زبان آموز جوان، خواسته شد که به پرسشنامه ای پاسخ دهند. لازم بذکر میباشد که هدف پرسشنامه مذکوربررسی نگرش ها، انگیزش، و فعالیت های آموزشی خانگی والدین به سوی دوزبانگی می باشد. نتایج ضریب همبستگی پیرسون و تحلیل رگرسیون خطی داده ها نشان داد که والدین نگرش مثبت کلی، انگیزه یکپارچه٬ و روشهای رسمی درفعالیت های آموزشی خانگی به کار می گیرند.علاوه بر این٬ یا فته ها نشان دادند که همبستگی مثبت معناداری بین نگرش ها، انگیزش و فعالیت های آموزشی خانگی والدین وجود دارد. ولیکن٬ تحلیل رگرسیون خطی داده ها نسبت به متغیر های مربوطه نشان داد که فقط متغیر انگیزه بر پراکنش فعالیت های آموزشی خانگی تأثیر چشمگیری دارد. پیامدهای بدست آمده ازنتایج برای معلمان٬ سیاست گذاران، و توسعه دهندگان برنامه درسی بهمراه برخی پیشنهادات در این مطالعه فراهم شده است.
