چکیده
این نوشته ترجمه ای است از فصلی با نام «اعراب»، به قلم آقای مایکل ک. ا. مکدانلد، پژوهشگر وابسته در دانشگاه آکسفورد و عضو فرهنگستان بریتانیا. وی متخصص در زبان ها، خطوط، کتبه ها و فرهنگ های باستانی شبه جزیره، به ویژه ناحیه شمالی عربستان است. این نوشتار، مقدمه ای است برای ورود پژوهشگران به شناخت پژوهش های زبانی و باستان شناختی دهه های اخیر، نوییسنده نگاهی دارد به مفهوم «اعراب». وی نشان می دهد در دوران باستان ، واژه «عرب» به مردمانی گوناگون، در مکان هایی گوناگون و با شیوه های گوناگون زندگی اشاره داشته است و در هنگام بررسی این واژه در دوره های هلنی و رومی، باید به دو نکته عنایت داشت.A Translation of “The Arabs” by MCA Macdonald
