The effect of rhythmic aerobic training and probiotic supplementation on Fetuin-A and serum aminotransferases in obese adolescent girls
Background and Purpose: Fetuin-A (FetA), an inflammatory hepatokine, plays a role in obesity-related liver disorders. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of rhythmic aerobic training and probiotic supplementation on serum levels of FetA and aminotransferases in obese adolescent girls. Material and Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 60 obese girls aged 15–18 years with a body mass index (BMI) between 30–35 kg/m² were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned into four groups: rhythmic aerobic training, probiotic supplement, combined (training + supplement), and placebo. The exercise protocol consisted of rhythmic aerobic training performed three sessions per week for eight weeks. The probiotic supplementation included one capsule per day of “Prokid” (manufactured by Milad Pharmed Co., Iran). Anthropometric measurements and fasting blood sampling were conducted 24 hours before the intervention and 72 hours after the final session, all on the same day for all participants. Paired t-tests and ANCOVA were used to analyze within-group and between-group differences, respectively (P ≤ 0.05). Results: Significant increases in cardiorespiratory fitness and significant decreases in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were observed in the exercise and combined groups compared to the placebo and probiotic groups (P < 0.05). Additionally, FetA levels significantly decreased in the combined group compared to the probiotic group (P < 0.05). The probiotic group also showed significant reductions in ALT and AST compared to the placebo group (P < 0.05).
